Dreaming of Life

It was not until I was seventeen I realised that I would not be able to pursue my dream but in fact change my dream and fight harder for it to come true. I understood that in some places it would be easy and in some places it would be very tough.

I wanted to become something which did not require any educational qualifications but I improved in studies when in school. But after improvement people around me started expecting more from me. They wanted to see me higher than I could possibly reach. True, some were hypocritical and used to speak too much. Some said I deserve to go to places where most people only dream of going. I started considering myself privileged. But from my childhood I did not have much interest in going to those places. What I had interest in was not easy to achieve, but I would have enjoyed the process learning how to get there. A friend of mine decided to go there but due to my grades I am supposed to go somewhere else which I might like but not love. And if I think of following my dream, my family would consider me mad and people around me would consider me a liar and think my school grades to be lies.

Once I had thought of pursuing what I want after my +2 but now seems like I would complete graduation first. And after that my passion for my dream might be long gone.

I know I am not the only one facing this scenario, there are plenty like me.

Recently I came across a 16 year old boy in Wikipedia who already has two successful music albums released. He might have made his dream come true. In India things are different. Music composers are few and playback singers are more. In fact more Bollywood music comes from soundtracks. No aspiring artist from India has been able to achieve anything near this at the age of 16. They all complete their studies, sometimes miserable and then they go for it. But for people who have done well in exams and passed off with a good percentage, many of them do not get to follow their dreams but study and become respectable engineers or doctors.

Voice - May 19th 2010

It is entirely true that when I grew up I only went to a drawing school for a couple of months but, then left it because of many reasons. I don’t know whether I have an interest in drawing or painting or not, but my parents did sent me to a drawing class to learn drawing when I was a child. My teacher there who was a gf – I mean his age was like a grandfather. (C’mon gf not only means girlfriend)
Recently I was drawing in my laptop and I drew something which I decided to put up here.

This photo or rather computer art is about a landscape with mountains at night. It is near the poles so you can see auroras.
But this picture represents exactly my mind. It’s like I am all alone on a ship sailing through and far away there are mountains which are like the exam results, which I am expecting shortly, and after that there seems to be little light. The sea fades into the dark mountains just like the outer world presently appears dark to me. I am lonely and lost in the sea and searching for a land and have hopes that there is land, but don’t know how the land will turn out to be.
Till the last academical year, I was in school, but now I know I will be able to make it into a college but the type of college and all are unknown just like the dark mountains. The reflection of the great minds in the college who draws me towards it is the reflection of the auroras.
As of now, I can simply hope to reach the shore and hope that the light near the mountains would be good enough for no evil.

Potato Battery

What is this?
This is a way to generate electricity by using a potato.... Yes you read correctly... A Potato...!!
Here are the details:

What do I need?...
  • One large Potato.
  • A strip of Zinc. (A galvanized material will do too. Rough GI wires will also do)
  • A piece of thick copper wire.
  • A Multimeter / Voltmeter to measure the voltage.
The basic experiment is based on the principle that potato and many fruits and vegetables work as potential batteries!
For the zinc electrode, a large galvanized nail works well. Nails with a thick, rough zinc texture are preferable to galvanized nails that are smooth.

What Should I do?
Push both the nail and the wire deep into the potato. Measure voltage output by the potato battery with a voltmeter. Now, wasn't that easy?
Seriously, though, experiment with different metals, electrode depths, and electrode spacings to obtain the greatest voltage possible from the potato. Try other vegetables or fruits and compare voltage output with the same electrode metals.
It can be difficult to power a load with a single "potato" battery, so don't expect to light up an incandescent lamp or power a hobby motor or do anything like that. Even if the voltage output is adequate, a potato battery has a fairly high internal resistance which causes its voltage to "sag" badly under even a light load. With multiple potato batteries connected in series, parallel, or series-parallel arrangement, though, it is possible to obtain enough voltage and current capacity to power a small load.

I need an Illustration, please...

Replaying Games

Due to the extraordinary and unique system of education in India, when I came to class 11, in school, which was just 2 years back, I was forced to retire from my usual self and become a ‘good’ boy to do better in studies, and subsequently hope to do better in life. Well I had a passion towards playing computer games in my ideal time, when I no other application used to interest me in front of the computer.

This used to happen twice or thrice in a week if I did not have school and less that once a week if I had school. But I did used to collect computer games a lot and also had a nice collection of games to choose from when I wished to play. But due to studies I had to give up this passion and temporarily retire from the gaming world. I was then fully unaware of the titles releasing and what antipiracy checks was becoming the trend, what all pirated DVDs are available and so on and so forth.

As a student your pocket money is far less than the minimum price of a good game that you can play. So piracy is the only way. Yeah I did try to find out the prices of the original games just to get a shock and think of a time when I will have a job, earn well and buy these. But in those times these would appear as wastage of time and money. True, when you have the time to play games, you don’t have the money, when you know that you will get the money, you don’t have the time and passion for it.

But you have everything in this world. Go to a game parlour, buy these titles costing just a few bucks and you are done.

Now I am again into gaming but I am only my favourite title. I got it from a friend and now after 2 years of no game, I am experiencing one of the best games. It is true that things have changed a lot. Earlier the graphics was okay, I liked it, now I can’t help falling in love with it. Technology is running and developing faster than our thoughts. And the detailing in the game has also increased. Earlier you could hardly think of using a mobile or GPS in a game, now that usual. I was just amazed at the level gaming has been taken. Yes these games are resource intensive and require a lot of memory and other resources, but at the same time it provides a lot of entertainment, much more than you have expected.

After playing GTA IV, I can think of only one thing, what else would be coming up next. To what level will they take the next version to? GTA truly deserves to be the best game, but for more comparison I need to play other titles as well. But again time is a factor.

After playing GTA IV, you can’t wish to play any other game. It’s just lovely. It’s mesmerising.

The Endless Wait

‘Antaheen’, that’s the Bengali word meaning to say ‘the endless wait’. A film goes by that name, released in 2009, and got many prestigious awards.

There are people who remain bachelors or spinsters all their life. Is it that they have not been attracted to someone or that no one has been attracted to them? Some times the answer is different and sometimes there is no answer. Sometimes people want a perfect person with an ideal relationship. Now there is only one Kiran Rao for Aamir Khan, the perfectionist. Sometimes they find that perfect person for them, but soon lose them in mishaps. Sometimes the situations force them to stop finding that someone and be happy with what they have got, even though they have nothing which can compensate the loneliness of not having a partner.

People need a job to do survive in this hectic city. When you start staying in this city, you have to get yourself adjusted and suited to the surroundings first, if you are successful you will continue to search for and wait (sometimes endlessly) for that someone, and if you are lucky enough, you may find that someone who was also lucky enough and was searching for you and found you. That’s life for most people who think they think a lot and understand a lot, understand true love and only want to spend their lives with that true lover.

And those who think they understand love even more than that, they have another feature common to most men. Their number of ex-girl friends is more than the number of 1000 rupees notes they earn a month or sometimes not earn anything a month. And yes the number of condoms they have brought is real life is way more than the number of books they ever purchased.

Most of my friends, who are single, think that waiting endlessly will help them finding true love. Their mind says, “Don’t take a decision in the hurry, your dream man or woman will surely come to you (tonight only in your lovely dream).” And there is another category of men who dream a lot during the day and lives their dream also during the day but not the real world. They have the virtual world of the internet. There they go on drinking around (again virtually) with a host of girls. Actually the looks of the actor who is in your profile picture matters more than your own looks.

Who says that today’s generation is impatient? You have so many people searching endlessly for the match maker.

Now if you are one of these super patient people, then I have one little advice for you. Since you have read till here with your amazing patience, which now I admire a lot, please read the other posts in this blog (notes in case you are reading in Facebook) and yeah, also write a short comment in the comments section. Aaaahhh again thinking of going to some other page!! Aren’t you that patient person to wait endlessly? Now agree to it that you are eagerly waiting for your true love to come your way.

My New Blog

I barely started blogging two months ago as a way to give my mind some relief in between exams. And when my exams are still not over, I start another new Blog, fully dedicated to my passions for photography.

Though for long photography was my hidden passion, recently I started collecting the most amazing and beautiful moments ever published. And then a thought came to my mind that I can share these memorable moments with the world. Because I have made a resolution to publish many photographs so I decided to keep it separate from my personal blog.

And the result of all this is Click a Story. So go check out the blog and some of the photographs that I have put up and will be putting up from time to time. And yes do give me comments on how my new blog is looking and ways of improving. And yes if you want to share a photograph in the blog, that's possible. Just visit the Feature Here page of my blog.

A Few Go(o)d Men

They say, “Behind every dark cloud there is a silver lining”. In India in reality, it’s just the opposite, “Behind every silver lining there is a dark cloud” or in other words, “After every bright morning there is a dark night”. I say, “What’s the difference?”

Everything in this world is balanced and requires symmetry. Look at yourself; considering you aren’t a physically disabled person, you have 2 hands, 2 legs, 2 eyes, 2 ears. So in other words you are symmetrical. Even the balance your vegetable grocer uses to weigh vegetables is symmetrical (am talking about the traditional ones, not the modern electronically operated ones).

Similarly for being good in doing bad work requires you to be bad in doing good work as well. For example, in India we have the God men who appear to be doing good work, but are bad in it and so end up getting caught doing bad work.

Going by the recent developments, we have the guy called Swami Nithyananda, who has gained a lot of popularity. He is in fact even shrewder than a businessman. If he needs a palace to live in, he would ask a hugely popular film star or a politician to donate money to create it in the name of God and an Ashram for the poor. Yet after this I did spot beggars at a stone’s throw from ashrams all over India. Strange!!

When a very popular film star or a politician donates for an ashram or even comes to these men for spiritual support and help, all that happens is the popularity of these God men increases exponentially. They even have mastered the art of magic, and they perform tricks to bring in more devotees, or followers (actually they are the ones who get fooled by their tricks) which appear to work miraculously.

A businessman would work hard, make money by fooling people and then get to build a palace, but see the idea of these so called saints wildly misusing the name of God and Religion. The religion of Hindu is such that, in order to be eligible to become a religious captain the only requirement is to wear a saffron coloured cloth. And that’s it. With a few more tricks and superb acting (actually fooling) abilities, you can make devotees from all over the world and subsequently enjoy a religious superhero status. Although you will be able to keep personal assistants, live in AC rooms (ashrams) and also have personal bodyguards, you cannot drive a BMW or Mercedes even though you have the money to buy 10 of them, nor can you have a ‘fan’ or for that matter a devotee asking you for an autograph.

You can continue with a lot of underworld and illegal activities with no limitations. These include supporting terrorism or storing weapons and also running prostitution camps and sometimes you also enjoying nights with some of the top models and actresses in the country.

Well that’s a very nice way of making your empire and doing your work, but will you be rewarded in the end? Will be known as Swami Vivekananda in the end? Every men (or women) have their own faults, so can you, but that does not mean you will deceive people and use their money to support inhuman activities?

What I always believe in is “Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best”. Next time you talk to a new (or an old) God men, keep that in mind. He might be clean, but don’t take him to be clean just because you didn’t find anything unclean, he might have pasted the brightest feathers on his wings. Take him to be clean only if you find everything clean, everything and confirming that he has not stole those feathers.

Voice II - Today 25th of March...

“Same old shit, just another day”. Yes guys that the description of today when the horror movie of our lives continues.

I don’t want to convert this blog into my online diary, but still today is a sort of comeback day. I am posting after close to a month. And so am writing. My class 12 boards are going with lots of holidays sometimes amounting to 8 days. Well I understand that it’s too much. And every day after my exam I am saying this same word. And then again, my school life is ending, finally. One more day to go with an exam and after that we have a small farewell and that on such a day when some of my dearest friends have an exam.

Now that my first chapter is over, I can finally concentrate on the second one. I’m learning a lot at this time, but also trying my best not to forget anyone.

And I am so happy now that my room and my desk is finally becoming cleaner with most old books retiring after maintaining a very good health through the last year, as I didn’t use to touch some of my books. While some which I loved and were my favourites are still on my table and begging me say goodbye.

After this the only language is the language of ambition and competition. With my competitive exams coming up, I can sense that how tough I will have to be when to going gets tough, in order to go.

Yeah today my main exams are over, with only 2nd language (Bong) left, which will be tough as I am pretty much weak in it. Still like a true soldier I should fight till the end. I mean in trying to complete the syllabus, not cheating. What all are you guys thinking? We need to write 2-3 page answers and you can’t cheat there.
Hope to write more posts in the upcoming weeks if I find time (which I guess I will) in the midst of my Entrances.

God and Souls

Many people believe in God, and many don’t. Many believe in souls, many say evil spirits exist. No one knows what it is, but everyone has a belief. And it’s not easy that one changes his or her belief. Man created everything, he created this beautiful world and made it suitable for him to live, but they don’t praise themselves, they praise God. And man has created Science, which gives no explanation for God, even after years of research.

So what do you believe in? Some one created Science to figure out the world by proving everything. He did not assume or take anything for granted. He tried to explain whatever he saw and kept a note of that. And the person who created God, he explained everything and might have assumed something but he did not keep a note of it. Take for example, Darwin’s work on the evolution of life. That serves as the base of how life evolved. He might had competitors who also had offered an explanation. May be there were 20 people who thought about how life originated, but only 5 noted down their ideas and 4 of them gut buried, destroyed or were illegible. But that served as the base of many theories in Science. Does this mean that the thoughts of the other 19 people are meaningless?

Now think that there is some super power, someone who created everything, someone who triggered off time. That some one had once made something which developed by itself to become this Universe (again man gave this something the name of Universe). Quite interestingly there were some small things in a special part of this, which had greed in them, and wanted to figure out who this person was, and made many attempts and many failed. Later they developed Science which was dedicated in figuring out the nature. Yes there were another group of people who believed in the almighty. But they did not want to figure out everything. They knew that this super power was behind everything and they gave it the name of God. They did not give concrete reasons to what they said and so people believing in Science, their opponent, did not believe them. Science is all about reasoning, and without reason, nothing is accepted in Science. So to an extent Science is Limited Knowledge. This is because there are some things which have no reason, they need to be accepted.

Too much belief in God has led to the development of superstition, a stage where people believe in whatever they are told. This is something which developed due to co-incidence. We created Probability, and God created Luck. This is where we stand, if we can understand whatever is there to understand, and then there won’t be any God.

But have you ever wondered as to why the hell people worship? This was due to the unfair advantage that some people (the priests) took and instilled in the minds of the people the need to worship. Yes if you worship, you gain something, that’s because if you worship, you don’t look at your losses. If you wear a red string around your hand, it’s not going to affect how much you can remember for your exams. If meeting your love needed forwarding a certain SMS to 10 or 15 friends, then lovers would have never been separated. If keeping a flower (and that too old) could influence your pen, then no one would have failed in exams. If doing a pranaam while thinking how to kick the ass of your opponent, could defeat him, then none would have ever failed and everyday everyone would go to the mandir.

But what believing in God does help is that it makes you optimistic. You always think of the good probability to happen. So in one way it does influence your mind. But don’t believe that praying to God would save you in the exam. I used to pray a lot one time and used to just pass. I used to say “God is there with me to promote me”. But once upon a time, circumstances forced to change my view. I stopped believing in God or his help. Incredibly that was the first time when I gained success. I did everything myself.

Coming back to the topic, souls are said to be something inside us, which is a very selfish and comfort loving thing. Well I don’t exactly know what thing it is but I call it selfish, because when it finds that the organs of a body are not working up to its standards, it dumps it and moves on to another body (probably wearing a fast track eye gear and wristwatches – Move on man). And comfort loving, well if you are 95 years old, the soul is trying whatever it can to live its bearer, who carried it for so many days. That’s the character of souls, but the medical sciences have no explanation for this sort of an effect. Souls connect to another soul(s) to create another soul(s). This is how it goes on. No one has been able to see the past and say how really we and our souls came to existence, that’s why we think of seeing the future.

People believe in God and pray when their loved ones are in the hospital. This shows that people need support to stay, they either can’t trust the doctor in the hospital or they can’t trust the Medical Sciences. But will trusting in God also does not mean drinking what the priest gives you.

The priests are the ones who use the name God for their own selfish interests. They mould the mind of people, so that they can gain something. There are people who believe in God but do not even tell God to keep His eyes closed while committing a sin. They don’t need the help of God while cheating in the exams or cheating on his girlfriend or wife. But when it comes to good causes, they need help from the almighty. If every one thinks that God will be with them, then there won’t be any losers.

Life - A Chemical View...

Every process in this universe is controlled by the man made laws of thermodynamics. It’s studied in Chemistry and I being a considerably big fan of the subject thought about this new view. Very few might be reading after this because very few like chemistry as a subject or like my writings.

A chemical reaction has been taking place for centuries yet we are least bothered to study it. A certain group of individuals started calling this reaction as life and since then it has been known to be so. Here are some of the known facts.

Though the mean time taken to complete the reaction is 60-70 years, some quote it to be even more than 100 years though actually very few things are available as proof. It cannot be accelerated though it can be terminated according to the fate of the product. Sometimes these get terminated accidentally and some times not.

To start this reaction, the reactants needed are XX and XY genes in the form of egg and sperm. Usually a specific machine is needed to produce these ingredients and this machine is the thing formed as a product of previous ‘life’ reaction which is still to get completed.

The reaction starts between the sperm egg in the uterus walls. That’s a bit biological, I agree. The Activation energy needed to start this reaction is found in these walls. When the first phase of the reaction is complete, then the reactants can’t be spotted easily and the product is the only thing that can be seen.

Visible signs of the progress of this reaction include wrinkles on the face. With some new technology it has been possible to slow down this process and the wrinkles are reduced, but the total reaction time remains same.

The ΔG (Gibbs Free Energy) of the reaction is always negative. The reaction terminates at a point when the ΔG becomes positive. This might happen naturally or might be caused by certain means. Means of termination of this reaction include use of a certain type of chemical which are usually called poison. This poison is essentially an instant terminator as it changes the sign of ΔG almost instantly. By the use of de-poisonators, (also certain processes) the changes caused by the poisons can be reversed to certain extent. Another method of terminating this reaction has been discovered and is available as 4-inch long usually white pencil like substance, which is usually burnt slowly and the smoke taken in. Though this takes much long time, we find it to be enjoyable and people usually use this on a regular basis. Its action is just like any other catalyst which is used to increase the speed of the reaction. It’s been recently banned in public in my locality, but no one is bothered to impose the ban. Mortals call it cigarettes.

Other methods also exist but are trade secrets and are so not revealed here.
